International Shipping Instructions for Returns to HGM Automotive Electronics

Overview

To ensure your return shipment reaches us without customs delays or unnecessary fees, please follow these instructions carefully. This guide covers two common scenarios: returning loaned equipment and returning products for repair.

Incorrect customs paperwork is the #1 cause of shipping delays and can result in significant, non-refundable import duties and taxes for HGM Automotive Electronics.

Returning HGM Automotive Electronics Products for Repair

Use this section if you are returning a USA-made product you own to HGM Automotive Electronics for repair service. You must complete and have an approved Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) BEFORE you ship anything back to HGM.

Commercial Invoice Instructions

On the commercial invoice provided by your shipping carrier, you must include the following information:

  1. Detailed Description: Be specific and state the item's condition.

    • Example: "Used [Product Name/Model], S/N [Serial Number]. Made in USA. Returning for repair and re-export. Not for sale."

  2. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Code:

    • Enter 9801.00.10 in the HTS/Tariff Code field.

    • This code identifies the item as a U.S. product being returned. The repair occurs after it has cleared customs.

  3. Value for Customs (Declared Value):

    • CRITICAL: You MUST declare the item’s current, broken, or non-functional value. This value should be significantly lower than the price of a working unit, as this is its true value at the time of import.

    • Example: If a new unit is $2,000, the declared value for a non-working one might be $200.

  4. Reason for Shipment:

    • State clearly: "Return of U.S. manufactured goods for repair."

Returning Products for a Refund

Use this section if you are returning a USA-made product for a refund of your original purchase. You must complete and have an approved Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) BEFORE you ship anything back to HGM.

Commercial Invoice Instructions:

  1. Detailed Description: "Used [Product Name/Model], S/N [Serial Number]. Made in USA. Return of previously sold merchandise for refund. Original Invoice #[Your Original Invoice Number]."

  2. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Code: 9801.00.10

  3. Value for Customs (Declared Value): Declare the original purchase price of the item, matching the original sales invoice.

  4. Reason for Shipment: "Return for refund. Cancellation of sale."

Returning Loaned HGM Automotive Electronics Equipment

Use this section if you are returning a USA-made product that was loaned to you by HGM Automotive Electronics.

Commercial Invoice Instructions:

On the commercial invoice provided by your shipping carrier (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.), you must include the following information:

  1. Detailed Description: Be specific. Do not just write "Tool."

    • Example: "Used [Product Name/Model], S/N [Serial Number]. Made in USA. Return of loaned equipment. Not for sale."

  2. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Code:

    • Enter 9801.00.10 in the HTS/Tariff Code field.

    • This code identifies the item to U.S. Customs as a duty-free "U.S. Good Returned."

  3. Value for Customs (Declared Value):

    • Declare a realistic fair market value for a used version of the item. Do not declare the full new value or $0. An incorrect value can cause customs to hold the package.

  4. Reason for Shipment:

    • State clearly: "Return of loaned U.S. manufactured goods. No commercial value."

Mandatory Customs Declaration Statement

This statement MUST be printed clearly on the commercial invoice for BOTH scenarios.

"I, [Your Name], declare that to the best of my knowledge and belief, the articles herein described are products of the United States; that they were exported from the United States and are returned without having been advanced in value or improved in condition by any process of manufacture or other means."
