Overview
This guide provides details on setting up a COMPUSHIFT controller with an Edelbrock ProFlo 4 fuel injection system. These two systems are connected together using CAN bus, and signals like throttle position and engine speed are automatically transferred between the two units. No other connection is required.
Edelbrock has used two different CAN connectors on the ProFlo 4 system. The first, a 9 pin DB style connector, is not water tight and isn’t suitable for under hood applications. This connector has been replaced in later units by an IP rated 4 pin Deutsch DTM connector. If your system came with the 9 pin connector, please contact HGM for a kit to replace that with the later Deutsch connector.
The Edelbrock ProFlo4 must be running software version 65 or later or the CAN bus communication will not work properly. Ensure that your system is updated before attempting the connection.
Setup Instructions
-
Ensure that both units are powered by the same switched ignition power
-
Connect the CAN bus between the COMPUSHIFT controller and Edelbrock ProFlo 4.
-
On the COMPUSHIFT Setup app or handheld display, navigate to the “Vehicle Setup Menu”.
-
Ensure that the transmission type is set correctly.
-
Set the engine type on the COMPUSHIFT controller to “Edelbrock ProFlo 4”.
-
Navigate to the dashboard on the setup app or handheld display.
-
Start the engine. Confirm that the engine speed and throttle position are reading correctly on the display.
Do NOT drive the vehicle until you have confirmed CAN communications are working properly and you have no trouble codes.
You can diagnose CAN bus problems by going to Diagnostics / Network Diagnostics on the CS Setup App. The CAN 1 Receive Count should be steadily increasing when the ECU’s are communicating correctly. The error counts should always be 0. If you do have errors, confirm that the CAN bus baud rate is set to 1000 in Network Setup.
